About the Craft

I began this craft about 20+ years ago as a simple hobby. Over time, due to its uniqueness, growing popularity, and the exceptional quality of the finished work, it evolved into a successful business venture. To date, we have created more than 20,000 handcrafted pictures in a wide range of designs.

Our art form—known as 3D Hand-Craft or Paper Tole—is made entirely from paper of various gram weights. In essence, it is the art of carefully cutting identical printed images into their distinct parts and reassembling them to create a three-dimensional replica of the original print. Each piece is individually shaped and the edges are colored to enhance realism. Silicone glue is then used to separate and layer the parts, giving the artwork its striking 3D depth.

In the final stages, each image is coated with acrylic paint, glitter, and sometimes varnish to protect the surface and add a subtle shimmering effect. The finished product delivers a truly spectacular 3D effect. Every piece is double or triple-mounted, boxed-framed, and presented in a protective gift box wrapped with bubble pack.

Each artwork is 100% handmade, requiring several hours—or even days—to complete a single picture. The size and cost vary depending on the complexity of the design and the craftsmanship involved. While our talented female artisans do the initial work, the final design and assembly are personally completed by me to ensure the highest quality and finish.

These framed artworks are customized to meet premium quality standards, designed to last a lifetime. They are often presented by corporate clients, government bodies, and organizations as unique gifts or souvenirs for special occasions and events. Each piece can also be personalized with the name of the event or recipient within the design.

"I started this craft originally as a hobby around 20 years ago, which eventually turned into a business venture due to the popularity and demand of its uncommon nature and mostly because of the final finish quality of this product. Presently, I have created over 20,000 pictures for various clients ranging from top-level officials and consulates to Presidents and VIP individuals. Paper Tole art is an intricate paper craft which involves cutting, shaping, sculpturing and gluing cutouts obtained from identical prints, and building these components up using, to create a 30 picture. Most of my recent creations that have been produced have been made for the local and international markets (mostly as Sri Lankan souvenirs). That being said, I am flexible in creating any type of design suitable to the client, provided it is drawn in great detail and care. I am a very passionate artist and take immense pride in each and every Lankapride Creation. I would like every recipient to enjoy my unique creations."
